Description: This program provides the fellow with a broad experience in the diagnosis and treatment of hand problems. It consists of two six-month segments, with two fellows and five staff members. Each fellow rotates with surgeons at the New England Baptist Hospital, the Tufts Medical Center, and the Newton/Wellesley Hospital. (All rotations are in the immediate Boston area.) The New England Baptist Hospital rotation is primarily with adult reconstructive problems, especially rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. The Tufts Medical Center experience centers on congenital, acute trauma, reconstructive, neoplastic and septic problems. The fellow conducts his or her own clinic at the Tufts Medical Center under staff supervision, and works closely with Tufts orthopaedic residents. The Newton/Wellesley Hospital segment will exposes the fellow to adult traumatic and reconstructive problems in a private practice setting. A microvascular course is provided. This program is an accredited program in surgery of the hand.
